In the past, watching an important movie is such a big deal that it was worth waiting in line for hours. Movies like 'Gone with the Wind', 'Jane Eyre' have influenced generations of Chinese people. Between 1949 and 1966, China imported and translated 775 movies from 32 countries. During that same period there were only a thousand movies made in China. Owing to the same political systems and ideologies and the close relationship between China and the Soviet Union, the vast majority of Chinese movies brought into China were from Soviet Union.
