Feng Ying, Pianist
Ms. Ying Feng has been praised by the Washington Post 'In her masterful performance (of Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto with the Baltimore Symphony), she dominated the orchestra from the crashing opening chords, and showed more power than any other people.'Ying Feng was born in Xinjiang Province of Northwest China. She began her piano studies at age five, giving her first public concert when she was seven. A lot of great Professors from Shanghai Conservatory gave her many valuable guidance and influence. For example: Cheng Ding Yi, Fan Da Lei, Ling Er Yao, Zhang Chong Fang, Zheng Shu Xing, and Wu Hui Fang. At age thirteen to nineteen Ms. Feng entered the Middle School of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and studied intensely with Mrs. Yang Yan Ru. By age sixteen, her name was known all over China due to her highly successful performances. A Gold Medalist at the Hong Kong International Piano Competition in 1992 and a First Prize winner of the China’s National Piano Competition during the same year. Again in 1992 , she received First Prize of International Competition of Chateau de Coureill, obtaining the highest points from the majority of the juries. Being the youngest of all the recipients, Ms. Feng was named among the Top Ten Great Artists of Shanghai City the following year, the major award for performers from different categories in China. Her interview articles and performance reviews appeared in newspapers and major cultural magazines in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, followed by an appearance on Shanghai National TV as a 'prodigy in the Classical music world'. As a result of this honor, she was celebrated nationally as the most gifted young pianist of the country. At the age of twenty-two, again she won a prize at the Margueritte Long/Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition. Maria Tipo, the Chairman of the Juries at the competition, praised her playing as 'an impressive performance....a special talent that is rarely found'.
